Information about our struggle with Youtube

In the summer of 2019 Youtube released a new policy against "hatespeech", mostly because of pressure and new laws from the EU, especially Germany. Youtube then contacted several NGOs such as the controversial "Antonio Amadeu Stiftung", a leftradical organisation and maybe even our foreign minister Heiko Maas who released the so called "Netzwerkdurchsuchungsgesetz".
Very soon dozens of history and historical music channels were deleted for the silly term "hatespeech" and complaints were never answered properly. They also never tell us which songs they see as hatespeech, so we just had to guess them by getting strikes.

The thing is, while we could understand, that Youtube strikes real political nazi songs, they also strike much older folk songs, only because they were popular in ww2, such as "Wenn die Soldaten" from 1839 and songs with no political lyrics, where you just sing about girls and the forest, such as "Im Wald im grünen Walde".

On the other hand, Youtube itself autogenerates so called "various artists" channels, where they upload the worst hardcore nazi songs from the SS and SA without any moderation.

We tried to contact TeamYoutube on Twitter, but they didn't help either. This is why many beautiful gems of German song history can't be uploaded on my channel anymore. I will upload them step by step on alternate platforms tho.

What do you have to consider when uploading historical German songs?

From our experience and testing on Youtube you have to consider the following:

- Don't upload any songs from the 1930s, even songs with harmless lyrics which are not even illegal in Germany can be a target such as: Erika, Rosemarie or Es war ein Edelweiß or older songs which were popular in that time, such as Wenn die Soldaten, Im Wald im grünen Walde (Lore Lore) or Es zittern die morschen Knochen and the Engellandlied.
- Even if one of those songs survives on another channel, it is no guarantee that the bot won't strike you or even terminate your whole channel
- Pictures, disclaimers, fake titles, comments etc. have no effect on the bot, only the audio matters
- If you got a strike you should contact TeamYoutube on Twitter with the URL of your video to check it
- You have the chance to sue Youtube, because unlike some gossips say, Youtube has to obey national laws, also the laws for the freedom of speech and arts. Just as they have to follow youth protection laws, they also have to accept those laws.
